Family Tree Maker – New 2012 Version Now Available

Family Tree Maker is a computer program which I can thoroughly recommend. This software makes researching your family tree really easy and great fun .

I bought Family Tree Maker myself a couple of months ago and found many of its features fascinating.  You input the information you know about your family and this synchronises with Ancestry.co.uk on line (this remains private if you wish). One of the advantages of this synchronisation is that if there is someone else registered with Ancestry who is researching someone on your tree you can link with them and share information. I found someone in Switzerland was researching my father’s side of the family and has over 250 people on their tree and my father’s parents died when he 1918 when he was just four years old. So I got an instant link to my father’s relatives.

The Family Tree Maker Program also receives “hints” from Ancestry as there is so much family history information already known about so many people that it makes it very much easier to find those ancestors you know nothing about.

Click on the link below to see full details of what the program offers. Once you start with the program you’ll be fascinated and hooked!

Restoring Your Old Photographs – Your Family Tree Magazine Article

I was approached by Your Family Tree magazine, to write an article about restoring old photographs and photograph restoration and storage.

My article appeared in the May edition of Your Family Tree magazine which is on sale from 24rd April.

Your Family Tree is actually an excellent magazine and is packed with interesting and useful information relating to every aspect of genealogy and family trees for both beginners and more advanced studies.

Family Tree research has become very popular recently partly due to the Who Do You Think You Are TV series which is invariably fascinating and just about every person whose family tree is focussed upon uncovers startling facts about their ancestors.

When I see some of the old photographs they show I find myself twitching because I could make them look so much better!

Photographs are the best way of remembering and recording our families and photograph restoration and photograph retouching and editing makes it possible for present and future generations to have lasting, quality images of their families as well as the places they grew up and more.

The article I have written explains the importance and benefits of sorting through your photographs and preserving them and offers simple ways of storing, cataloguing, and repairing them yourself.

G2 – Definitive Genesis/Richard Haines Charity Weekend Update

A quick update by the organiser on the Charterhouse gigs last weekend – there were so many supporting emails from people who came and from those who couldn’t come – so it seems worth reporting back on how it all went.

“We were 3/4  full on Friday and pretty much sold out on Saturday, resulting in an amazing atmosphere in the hall. The ‘unplugged’ set was superb with a really lively Q&A to follow with some great questions from the audience …

The auction was first class – culminating on Saturday when we sold the Platinum Award from Tony Banks for £740! Nearly £3k from the auction and best part of £1000 in the door collection. Our hope is that we finally give £8000+ to Shooting Star CHASE – we are still waiting for figures to come in and will let you know final figures.
If you’d like to donate, you can here>>

A few photo highlights below – courtesy of Richard Haines and his www.genesispictures.co.uk online biz – do take a look (Quote CHASE to give 20% of any purchase to the charity). Great response to his picture display at the gigs and he kindly donated the ‘flower’ to the auction (went for £280!!). Thanks Richard.”

PS – Don’t miss their forthcoming shows … Milton Keynes (standing room only) and Redhill coming up next. Book at www.g2online.co.uk

Genesis Fund-Raising Weekend Success

Richard donated one of his Genesis Photographs (signed, mounted and framed) to the Shooting Star CHASE Childrens Charity Auction at the G2 – Definitive Genesis concert held at Charterhouse School on 14th April and it was sold for £280! Lots of interest shown in the exhibition of the  exclusive photographs of Genesis in the early 70s from the hundreds of Genesis/G2 fans.

Richard also took some photographs of G2 in concert – see the link below:

Exclusive Genesis Photographs – Exhibition at Charterhouse Charity Weekend

I was commissioned to take photographs of Genesis in 1974 at Headley Grange in Hampshire where they were writing and rehearsing their album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. These phoptographs have laid dormant in my collection until recently when I decided to post them onto my website www.GenesisPictures.co.uk so they could be shared.
This has led to me being invited to put on an exhibition of over twenty of these photographs at Charterhouse School, where Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks went to school and formed the band Genesis originally.

Here are the details from the promoters of the concerts and auction being held this weekend 13th and 14th April in aid of Shooting Star CHASE Children’s Charity:

• Unpublished 1970s’ picture display … loads of interest in Richard Haines unique unpublished photo collection. 20% of the proceeds will be donated to our charity – check them out here: www.genesispictures.co.uk. These include pictures taken at Headley Grange during the making of ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’!. Richard is also donating one of the images to our Auction.

Recent Examples of Photograph Restoration, Retouching and Manipulation

Here are some recent examples of photographs that I was asked to manipulate. I optimised the photographs first by restoring them and then made the required combinations. Firstly I removed the car door, tree, litter and cigarette end to result in a good photograph of the couple. From this image I was asked to make a combination of the woman with her dad as she didn’t have a good picture of them together. Then with the picture of the couple within the group I extracted them, created the background and of course the correct number of arms!
